UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION

Most submarine cable is found under the sea, but in certain places cables are run on river beds. Preferably the cables would have been run under the roadway on bridges, or via ducting fixed to the sides of a bridge, but sometimes the river bed has to suffice. The problem with the river bed is that the depth is not great, the cable must be completely waterproof and remain that way for a long period of time. Damage is major concern especially by anchors and collision with the cable at the banks of the river. So the cable has to be well armoured. The cables also require signage as a warning to shipping and those who may be working on the shore line. Dartmouth, Devon (UK) An interesting point is that BT actually class the structure as a pole and pole test it!
