Typical Switchboard Jack Designation
For example - Jack No. 320BN where the following breakdown applies:-
3 = Number of tags per strip.
20 = Number of Jacks per strip.
B = Gauge.
N = Method of fixing.

2 point with lamp holder.


 

Jack No. 3

4 way single flat socket.  Fits under a keyboard.

Used with Plug No. 404.

Superseded by Jack No. 19.
 

 
Jack No. 4

4 way double flat socket.  For use with table telephones to Diagram CB 30, CBS 16 and CBS166.

Diameter - 1.75".

Used with Plug No. 404.

Superseded by Jack No. 407.

4 way single wall socket.  Fits under a keyboard.

Used with Plug No. 407.

Jack No. 84A and 84B

4 way miniature jack used with Plug No. 420.  No. 84A is shown pictured.  The No. 84B is enclosed in a lozenge shaped plastic cover.

When Jacks No. 84 are required switchboards the following Jack, Plates are used:-
Single jack - 1/DPL/719.
Double jack - 1/DPL/695.

Jack No. 95A

Surface mounted 4 way jack used with Plug No. 420.

There are two models of this jack.  On the later model the cover is released by squeezing the sides, whilst on the early version the cover was fixed by two screws.

Terminals 1 to 4 connect to the plug whilst terminals 4 and 4A consist of a contact set that breaks when the plug is inserted.

Colours: Ivory and Grey.

Generally used on the GPO Extension Plan No. 4 system.


 

Jack No. 95B

4 way flush mounted Jack used with Plug No. 420.

Colours: Ivory and Grey.

Terminals 1 to 4 connect to the plug whilst terminals 4 and 4A consist of a switch that breaks when the plug is inserted.

 

Jack No. 96A

5 way surface mounted Jack used with Plug No. 505.
