The GPO/BT Alarm By Carrier (ABC) system, was known internally as the Carrier System WB1000, developed in the late seventies, and marketed as a means of extending burglar and fire alarms to central monitoring points.  It replaced the rather unreliable 'Home Office' alarm panels installed at police or fire stations.
