MITEL Smart 1 Compact
Programming Version 1

Overview
The Smart Compact can be used in a number of configurations - all user programmable, as long as you have a phone with ABCD keys.

LD to MF (Dial pulses to Tone working)
The Smart 1 Compact (single line) dialler will convert Pulse Dialling to Tone dialling.  The unit buffers the full digit string that is inputted from the dial phone, before sending the digit string to line in tone form.  Because the time taken for the completion of the pulsed dialled digits into the buffer may be longer than the public exchange expects, the exchange will time out before the dialler sends digits to line.  To prevent this happening the dialler is programmed to dial 1470 (UK - send CLI code) in front of any number it sends to the exchange.  The 1470 is sent in a slow digit string and then the buffered dialled number is added to the end - this prevents the exchange from timing out.

To check that your exchange will work with the 1470 inserted - dial from your phone 1470 plus your phone number.  You should get engaged tone.  The code 1470 is seen by the exchange as an instruction to send your 'calling line indication'.

Programming instructions for the Smart 1 Compact (8346-001-RES3XX the UK version) are shown below and there are three different ways to do this, depending on the digit length of the local exchange number.

Please refer to the Mitel Manual for the method of how to programme the dialler.  You will need a phone or a tone pad that can dial a digit 'D'.  The BT Kirk telephone will do this.
