Who was Edward Shipton?
Edward Shipton’s telephone experience began in 1902, when he joined the National Telephone Company. He then transferred to the engineering department of Post Office Telephones, before in 1923 setting up his own-company Shipton Telephone Systems, which as Shipton Automation Ltd, later incorporated Modern Telephones, British Home & Office Company, Hadley Telephone and Sound Systems, General Telephone Systems, General Signal and Times Systems (Gensign) and the Standard Time Company, employing nearly 1,000 people in the UK and the Irish Republic by the 1973's. The company was renamed Communio Networks in 2005 and appears to have disappeared without trace in the interim.
