A Transmitter is the complete unit, whilst a Transmitter-Inset is an insert or capsule that maybe fitted within a Transmitter.

Transmitter No. 1

This was a Solid back transmitter.

 Mark 4001 - The original, produced by Western Electric in the UK.

Marks 239 and 240 - Produced by Peel Conner.

Formerly known as the "Transmitter, Solid back, C.B."

Standard Transmitter for C.B. telephones.

Fitted with a Mouthpiece No. 4.

Invented by an American called A. G. White.

Used on Telephones No. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 64.

Formerly known as the "Transmitter, Inset, Complete, Metal".

Fitted with a Transmitter-Inset No. 3, which was replaceable.

Fitted with a Mouthpiece No. 4.

Used on Telephones No. 3, 4, 11, 14 and 15.

Transmitter No. 3

L.B. Deckert transmitter.

Formerly known as the "Transmitter, Inset, Complete, Ebonite".

Also includes Deckert Transmitters and Deckert Transmitters converted for insets.

Used on Telephones No. 17, 19, 21 and 40.

 



 

Transmitter No. 4

L.B. Breastplate transmitter used by operators on primary battery trunk exchanges.

Formerly known as the "Transmitter, Breastplate".

Fitted with a Mouthpiece No. 1.

Used with a Receiver, Headgear.

Superseded by the Transmitter No. 23A.

Transmitter No. 5

C.B. Breastplate transmitter used by operators on secondary battery trunk exchanges.

Used with a Receiver, Headgear.

Formerly known as the "Transmitter, Breastplate, C.B. with Auto Switch".  Earlier issues had a Cord No. 110.

Includes:-
1 x Connection, Mouthpiece, No. 6.
1 x Loop for Bands, Transmitters, Breast Plate, Slotted Hole.
1 x Mouthpiece No. 6 (Mk. N.T. 9).
18" Web, Non-elastic, No.2, Grey.

Superseded by the Transmitter No. 23A.

L.B. type for Telephone No. 28, except Mark 234.

Used on ATM Co's automatic telephones.

C.B. transmitter for use on Telephone No. 57.

Fitted with a Mouthpiece No. 4.

 

 
Transmitter No. 16

L.B. transmitter used on Electrophone Stage Circuits.  These were generally mounted on a Base, Transmitter No.1.

Fitted with an Angelini type transmitter which used a Mouthpiece No. 13.  The Mouthpiece No. 13 was made of Porcelain and included a Connectors, Mouthpiece, No. 9, cemented on.

The Mark 234 (not an Angelini) model used a Transmitter, Inset No. 9.

 



 

Transmitter No. 17

Local Battery transmitter fitted on Tables, Electrophone, NT.

Fitted with a Cord, Instrument No. 425, Diaphragm No. 16 or No. 20 and a Mouthpiece No. 4.

 

 
Transmitter No. 21

This is a single bell gong that is fitted to Mechanisms No. 13 and 14.  The gong has a carbon granule container attached.

Used for signalling deposits of coin in prepayment coin collecting boxes.  The operator could hear the bell or gong sound via this transmitter which induced the sound onto the line.

This transmitter includes a Bell Gong No. 18.

Transmitter No. 22

Used on C.B. and L.B. telephones etc.

Introduced early 1930's and superseded the Transmitter No. 1 and 2.

Includes:-
1 x Mouthpiece No. 16.
1 x Transmitter-Inset, No. 10 or 13.

 



 

Transmitter No. 23

C.B. or L.B. moulded Breast Plate type with switch facility (later supplies distinguished from No. 23A by circular yellow spot).

The switch disconnected battery feed to the transmitter, when the mouthpiece was moved away from the mouth.

Transmitter No. 23 includes:-
1 x Loop for Bands, Transmitters, Breast Plate, Slotted Hole.
1 x Mouthpiece No. 17 or No. 19.
1 x Transmitter, Inset, No. 13A.
18" Web, Non-elastic, No. 2, Grey.

Transmitter No. 23A includes:-
1 x Transmitter, Inset, No. 13AA.
Otherwise as for Transmitter No. 23.

To be requisitioned separately:-

1 x Cord, Instrument 4/12A, Brown, 48".

Elastic for Loops, Breast Plate, Transmitters.

Supersedes Transmitter No. 5A.

Used with a Receiver, Headgear No. 10A (See picture to right).

Transmitter No. 24

This is a housing that will accept a Transmitter No. 10B.  It plugged into the side of a special WW2 gas mask to allow speech whilst wearing the gas mask.

Used with a Receiver, Headgear.

Made by Siemens Brothers.

Introduced circa 1938.

Transmitter No. 25

Transmitter No. 26 and 26A

A circular transmitter capsule with two fly wires.  Used in the wand of a Transmitter No. 27A.  The No. 26 was used with the Control Unit No. 8A and the No. 26A with the Transmitter No. 27A.

Introduced circa 1961.

Dimensions
Diameter - 1.037".
Thickness - No. 26 is 0.309" and No. 26A is 0.377".

Transmitter No. 27A

Used on the LST 5 (Servophone) which forms part of a P.O.S.M system used by handicapped persons.

The transmitter is a 10" PVC wand, containing a Transmitter No. 26A, connected to Bulgin plug which is turn is wired to a Plug No. 417G.

 

 
Transmitter No. 28A

Used on the LST 7 (Servophone) which forms part of a P.O.S.M system used by handicapped persons.

Supersedes the Transmitter No. 27A.
