EXCAVATOR, TRENCH, A.R.P.S. MODEL JR
Application
For excavating trenches 3in. wide and up to 20in. deep for laying polythene
covered cable direct into the ground.
General description
The digging chain is driven by a V belt directly from a 3h.p. air cooled engine
with reduction gear drive. A belt tightener on the V belt acts as a clutch for
the digging chain. The feed is by means of a hand operated winch and a cable.
The digging boom is lowered into the ground by means of a cranked handle and
locked in position. The cable is then pulled out from the winch and anchored to
a stake driven into the ground behind the operator. The excavator can then be
winched along by turning the winch handle. The equipment is mounted on a tubular
framework with four ball bearing wheels fitted with semi-pneumatic tyres. A
shroud is provided to keep soil from being thrown over the engine and operator
and also to protect the operator from the digging chain.
