Application
For excavating trenches from 4in. to 12in. in width to a depth of 5ft. 6in.
Excavators supplied via the Rate Book are equipped to dig up to 3ft. 6in. deep.
Not suitable for use on steeply sloping verges.
General
description Pedestrian operated self-propelled mounted on four pneumatic tyred
wheels. Road speeds of up to 3 m.p.h. Power provided by 12h.p. air-cooled petrol
engine with electric start. ARPS L-12 models have hand start only. Excavating
speeds can be finely adjusted to suit digging conditions. Digging boom raised
and lowered hydraulically. Excavated material deposited to either side of
machine as desired by transverse conveyor belt. A pair of steel cage wheels that
can be bolted to the drive wheels are provided for use on slippery surfaces.
Performance
The excavated soil is finely chopped and ideal for reinstatement. The digging
speed varies considerably depending on soil conditions and dimensions of trench.
Typical performance figures are:-
(a) 12in. width - 24in. depth.
(b) 4in. width - 12in. depth.
Good digging conditions 60 yards/hour 180 yards/hour.
Difficult digging conditions 30 yards/hour 60 yards/hour.
