ROCK DRILL, P.E.D. (WARSOP TYPE CD)

See E.I. Tools and Transport, Mechanical Aids, H1001.

Application
For drilling holes for the placing of explosive charges in rock, concrete etc., and for light road breaking work. Used in situations inaccessible to an air compressor or where the use of an air compressor is not justified.

General description
A self contained rock drill which can be converted to a road breaker by means of two simple adjustments.

The machine is powered by an integral 250 c.c. two stroke petrol engine and is supplied complete with drill rods 1ft., 2ft., 3ft., and 4ft., long, rip bits 1 and 3/8in., l and 1/2in. and l and 3/4in. diameter, a moil point breaker steel, hand pump and hose, a flexible exhaust extension hose, maintenance tool kit and instruction manual. The drill and all accessories, other than the longer drill rods are contained in a stout wooden case for transport and storage purposes.

Weight
90 lb.

Fuel
Petrol/oil mixture (16 parts petrol to 1 part oil, cylinder, Motorcycle).

Capital cost
£210.

Remarks
Conversion of the machine from drill to breaker operation can be effected in under 5 minutes without changing any parts other than the drill or breaker steel. As a road breaker the machine is not quite as efficient as the Warsop Road Breaker. The hand pump supplied is intended only for final blowing out of the hole before placing the charge and there is no provision for connecting it to the drill as in earlier models.

The shank size of drill and breaker steels for use with this machine is 7/8in. hexagon x 4and 1/2in. long. Steels supplied with earlier types of Warsop drill are not suitable for use with the Type CD drill.

Tungsten carbide tipped drill steels are available if required for drilling in granite and other very hard rock.
