HISTORY OF THE RELIANCE TELEPHONE COMPANY Ltd. and RELIANCE SYSTEMS Ltd.

The Reliance Telephone Company Ltd was registered in July 1919 was a nominal capital of £25,000.  The first Directors were Algernon Collins, John Smith and Ernest Silbermann.

Reliance Systems Ltd. was also register in July 1919, with a capital of £500,000.

In March 1950 the share capital of The Reliance Telephone Company Ltd was increased to £300,000 and increased again to £500,000 in September 1956.

In 1953 the The Reliance Telephone Company Ltd became a subsidiary of GEC.

In 1963 the head office of The Reliance Telephone Company Ltd was at 43/47 Parker St, London. WC2.  Mr. Silbermann was Chairman.

The Reliance Telephone Company Ltd was combined with A.E.I.'s Private Telephone Business which was part of GEC-AEI Telecommunications in 1967.

In February 1971, the Sterling Telephone and Electric Company Ltd, changed it's name to Reliance Systems Ltd and then in October 1971 that name changed to The Reliance Telephone Company Ltd.  The companies head office was now at 1 Stanhope Gate, London. W1A 1EH.

Meanwhile Reliance Systems Ltd incorporated in 1919, became GEC Reliance Ltd in December 1984, then changed to GPT Reliance Ltd in April 1988 and in June 1989 became GPT Sales and Service until February 1997 when the company was subsumed by Siemens.

It is believed that the company names have been re-established, but have no connection with the original companies formed in 1919.
