Introduced in 1956, this set is the GEC 1000 set.  These telephones were fitted with a new induction coil and rocking armature receiver which allowed them to be used on 1000 ohm exchange lines.

The TEL/17T/ATS was used by British Railways, Telephone Rentals and the Reliance Telephone Co.

The phone in the picture was installed by the Reliance Telephone Company GEC 1000 type with a GPO dial label.
The GPO never used this model of phone!

Above we have an Ivory coloured model and yes - the handset was black
as it was for the red and green cased models as well.
