Telephone, Common Battery, Table, (Ericsson Type)
Ericsson C.B. phone,
probably their model CG400. This
steel-cased phone was introduced around 1912 and was intended to replace the
more ornate (and more expensive) older-style desk phones like the
Telephone No 2. Decoration was minimal. It
was usually finished in plain black with a Commonwealth of Australia
transfer and gold pinstriping. Its lifespan was brief, the generally
cheaper candlestick phones being preferred after the first World War until
the introduction of Bakelite phones.
