In 1955 GEC decided to renumber all their telephones with
the prefix TEL. The 1947 numbered MT 6101 - MT 6216 and IT 4102 - IT
4204 ranges, which were the original catalogue numbers for the Junior
Gecophone were part of this renumbering. See the catalogue number
conversion table below. THE GECOPHONE JUNIOR TELEPHONE
Direct Working
This is the simplest arrangement in which one Gecophone Junior telephone is linked
directly with another by a comparatively short line. Manager to Secretary, Stores to
Records, Lounge to Kitchen, are a few obvious applications.
Battery Call
Three Gecophone Junior telephones can be linked through a simple switch for A to
call B or C, B or C to call A and for A to switch B and C through to each other.
The switch connects a bell at station A to the disengaged line.
A number of this type of set can be connected to a battery-call switch board for an operator to establish interconnections.
For Apartment Flats
The Gecophone Junior telephone is ideal for flats. With a telephone in each flat and a reply panel in the hall, tenants may
call the porter, who, if they wish, can connect them to manager, kitchen, garage, etc. Thus at low cost the standard of service can be raised considerably.
Reply and Call (for loudspeaking intercom system)
In a G.E.C. pushbutton intercommunication system, the secretary to an executive may not require intercommunication with all parties on
the system and will therefore not be provided with the usual pushbutton telephone. The provision of a Gecophone Junior telephone, however, allows
the secretary to have direct calls to and from the executive, who may use his loudspeaking telephone.
Six Line Intercommunication
Up to six instruments each with five push buttons can be linked together for
direct communication, any one with any other, at the touch of a button.
The scheme allows one, two or three conversations at a time to take place.
Multi-core cable links all telephones and the maximum permissible total
length cabling length is 400 yards (366 Metres).
BUSINESS PREMISES
The Gecophone Junior Telephone provides internal communication in various forms
to aid the smooth running of any organisation, large or small, at low initial
cost and with
negligible maintenance charges:
For the small business it can provide all the internal communication necessary.
For the larger business, it is an invaluable auxiliary to the main internal system, giving immediate and separate communication
between parties requiring frequent converse with each other. A call on the main
system can be held whilst any required information is instantly obtained from another
department over the Gecophone Junior system.
PRIVATE RESIDENCES
The convenience of owner, guests and
servants can be enormously increased by a simple telephone system. The Gecophone
junior system brings all rooms virtually close together at the press of a button, and its
styling makes it an asset to almost any surroundings.
All calls are signalled by a pleasant note on a buzzer
Mounts on Table or Wall
The telephone is designed to mount on table or wall, the cradle being specially shaped to hold the
handset in either position. The table pattern instrument is connected by a flexible cord to a terminal strip for the line wires. For wall-mounting, the line wires are run directly into the telephone and a different escutcheon is fitted.
Line Wires
Two line wires run to each telephone, except
in the intercommunication system (nine wire multi-core cable) and the
reply-and-call system (seven-wire multi-core cable).
Batteries
Gecophone Junior sets of the direct working, battery-call and push button
intercommunication types operate on a battery supply from dry cells. 6
volts DC (1.5 volt for speech and 4.5 volts for calling/ringing).
An alternative power supply for the pushbutton system can be derived from A.C. mains unit Cat. No. SUl30l, which operates from a 100 or 200/250-volt mains supply.
The model for apartment flats and the reply-and-call type draw their supplies from the system with which they are associated.
Simple to Install: Negligible Running Cost
Plastics, staybrite steel, silicon aluminium, and twin silver contacts promote long service life. For the tropics, special finishes give added resistance to
adverse climatic conditions.
Operation
To make a call, lift handset and depress appropriate button. Button
will remain latched until handset is replaced at the end of the call.
Introduced circa 1947.
